Dr. Damian Bird graduated from Victoria University in 1997 with a BSc(Hons) in Applied Physics and Computer Science and transitioned to industry as a programmer until 1999 when he commenced his PhD. He completed his thesis and then undertook post doctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison USA. On returning to Australia he held a post doctoral post at the University of Melbourne in the School of Chemistry. He is the author 16 peer reviewed journals, 2 books, 1 book chapter and 3 patents.
Transitioning from academic studies to the commercial space in 2008, Damian was employed by Universal Biosensors (a company focused on the development and commercialisation of IVD medical devices) for 11 years. During this time he held the posts of Senior Scientist, Director of R&D and Director of Product Development, the later since 2012. He oversaw all elements of product lifecycle, from concept/feasibility to launch/post launch, and was a key part of the companies 2 successful product launches in this time.
He has diverse experience including management of large cross-functional groups, establishing and working with quality systems/teams (QC, QA, Audits), high volume manufacturing and operations, software/hardware development and CROs.
